I am a literary agent exclusively for Autistic people. (I do other for-hire editing work as well, but my agent work is just for Autistics and I’m only paid if the author’s book sells.)
If anyone reading this has a book idea and is looking for a literary agent, I’d love to chat.Â
My Manuscript Wishlist:
I am a literary agent for prescriptive and narrative nonfiction editor focusing on books written by Autistic people. I specialize in innovative nonfiction that helps readers live fulfilling lives, broadens their understanding of the world, and empowers them to become the best version of themselves.
I am looking for prescriptive nonfiction that provides an Autistic perspective in the areas of psychology, neuroscience, health, careers, parenting, relationships, and mind/body/spirit.Â
My speciality is helping researchers turn their work into something that will be exciting for the commercial market and helping my authors distinguish themselves in a crowded market.
I am looking for non-fiction titles written by Autistics about their special interest such as Questlove’s ‘Music is History’ or Alfred Kinsey’s ‘Sexual Behavior in the Human Female.’Â
I am looking for narrative nonfiction and memoirs that tap into Autistic Sensory experiences and what Autistic people are experiencing, interested in, and talking about.
I am also looking for investigative narrative projects by Autistic Academics and journalists or experts that are deeply researched. Books do not need to be about Autism itself, though I only work as an agent for Autistics and I am especially interested in books that explore themes of what’s going on in the world now including the fight for trans rights, against ableism and racism, environmental justice, feminism, equality, and social justice in all areas of life–from healthcare to technology to family life to the workplace.
If you have a book idea you would like to discuss there are no fees and no upsells. I will never try to sell you anything. If I think I can sell your book idea I will simply let you know and if we get a book contract I will take a 15% cut. Simple as that.Â
Can’t wait to hear some of your book ideas…
Oh, and yes, I have worked on dissertation conversions to commercial books if that’s on your to do list…
What SPIN do you LOVE to research and share? Tell me in the comments!
*Background note: Most people only have a vague (often, highly stereotyped) version of autism in their minds and believe that autistic children need (traumatic) ABA therapy to "overcome" their disability and appear "normal."  After receiving an autism diagnosis in her thirties, Dr. Angela Lauria realized that she too had been mostly unaware of what it means to be Autistic.  Like so many people, she started her journey by first gathering information and resources from the omnipresent (and problematic) Autism Speaks, but eventually moved away from the 'autism community' in favor of the 'Autistic community,' where she found kinship with other Autistic individuals and learned to let go of pathologizing language like 'autism spectrum disorder' and 'Asperger's Syndrome.' This autism blog (and her autism podcast, "The Autistic Culture Podcast") is meant to share her lived-experience insights to support others on a similar journey of diagnosis, understanding, and community. Embrace Autism--differences are not deficits.
