I agree as well, I ran track/cross country/road races, for thirty years, from age 12, I very quickly learnt, as someone who wasn’t the best, that I could compete against myself, ie trying to achieve my PB (PR in the US, I think). I ran whatever event my club needed me to (I was the club secretary at 18, lol), from 100m to 10,000m.
I totally agree! I did cross country in high school and loved it because, unlike team sports, I didn't have to be well-coordinated or socialize much! LOL I added the idea to our list of listener suggestions!
Oh no I wrote like 2 paragraphs on how you should check out Jackie Kashian who is amazing and then accidentally lost the comment before submitting 😭
In summary, I highly recommend checking out her specials “I am not the hero of this story” and “staykashian.” She only makes passing reference to being autistic in her special “this would make an excellent horcrux” but she talks at length in all of her specials about her need to always be reading a book, gaming, not knowing how to date until online dating came around - where she met her game designer husband- and just so much more. She also has a podcast called the Dork Forest where guests come on to talk about their special interests!!!
Great episode, I must say as an Aussie who’s lived in Scotland for over two decades and won’t attempt the local accent, I am grateful Matt that you didn’t attempt either the Aussie or Scottish accents — it would probably have grated my eardrums. lol
Running really helps me regulate but if you’ve ever delved into the world of ultramarathons, it’s another level!
Enjoyed this episode! I’ve noticed several episodes mention running and autistica. Future episode?? Ultramarathoner here.

Ooh! I'm going to look up those specials today. Thanks for the recommendation. I added this suggestion to the list!
