I'm binging TACP and gradually working my way through past episodes. The discussion on work and finding your passion and that becoming how you make your living were TOTALLY on target for me! I grew up with a mom who we are sure is un-dx'd autistic and a dad who was undx'd ADHD. Were certain of both. But I'm starting to think, as I listen thru the episodes, that Dad may also have been autistic. WRT this episode, I remember that when I got my second job in a library- the first full-time job I ever had - I remember him telling me that he had always loved police work and had always been able to find work related to that field because it interested him so much, and tgat maybe working in libraries would be that way for me. And he was right! Both of us branched out thru our careers - I've done reference, run library computer systems, taught research skills, and tackled a variety of projects in the academic institutions where I've worked - but as I look back I can see that my monotropic focus has been connecting and organizing information so it is usable for others. It was harder to see than some people's focus on a single topic, but it's there nonetheless. Fascinating!
Oh and I totally get the Edie thing. She was one of my SPINS in my 20’s. I dressed like her for Halloween! If she’s my woman crush even though I am not gay! Thanks for mentioning her too!
