I know!!! I’ve lived here since 1991 and no one ever told me! Such an awesome legacy for Autistic people!

I just relistened to this episode.

I think it is one of my favourite episodes. Put a biography about Banneker on my book wishlist too because I never heard about him before. 🙂

Is there a chance you guys might ever talk about the overlap/ differences of highly gifted people and autistic people? It came up.in a forum I am on and the definitions feel mushy to me. Especially since one is deficit-based due to the medical model and one is strength-base with the tests being around achievement/performance.

A lot of the stuff like the search for deep knowledge, narrow deep interests, high sensitivity and social difficulties sounds a lot like autism to me.

Especially since gifted people might be able to compensate and mask successfully for longer?

Might this lead to misdiagnosis?

How do they differentiate between a gifted person not diagnosed with autism and a gifted autistic person who got all needed accomodations?

I know there's allistic people who are gifted, but a lot of this sh...stuff sounds like autism to me.

I have thought about some of this too! I'd love to hear Matt and Angela talk it out!

I love Benjamin Banneker’s story. We took several tours and somehow he was not mentioned. Thanks for bringing light to this brilliant, Autistic man.

I loveeee this! Thank you Angela! I really enjoyed all the facts and the introduction to the DC city structure! I have been there once and I loved it! I went with a cohort from my MSW program to lobby congress! So fun! I did not get to drive though. So entertaining and fun!!

Babies that don’t get the chance to be born through the birth canal lose the most important proprioception opportunity for their bodies. That’s why I always suggest craniosacral therapy so that they have the chance to rebirth moving their bodies instinctually as if they had the chance to have a “do over”. It’s amazing!!! I’ve even had adults “rebirth” on the table. Something internal intrinsically transforms.

No offence, but this sounds like bovine excretion to me.
