Listen now | In this episode, Matt and Angela—joined by our sound engineer and behind-the-scenes wizard Simon Scott—take a deep dive into the world of My Chemical Romance through an autistic lens.
Off-topic with a show idea: the Jargon File (http://www.catb.org/~esr/jargon/html/index.html), which is a motherlode of vintage tech lore. I used to work at a computer help desk, and found the Jargon File because I needed to look up terminology used in the Bastard Operator from Hell humour columns, which are another classic work of that subculture.
Recently I rediscovered the Jargon File’s Appendix B, “A Portrait of J. Random Hacker” and read it cover to cover. Matt will have a field day, especially with its “snapshot in time” descriptions of autism and ADHD. It includes this gem: “Many hackers have noticed that mainstream culture has shown a tendency to pathologize and medicalize normal variations in personality, especially those variations that make life more complicated for authority figures and conformists. Thus, hackers aware of the issue tend to be among those questioning whether ADD and AS actually exist; and if so whether they are really ‘diseases’ rather than extremes of a normal genetic variation like having freckles or being able to taste DPT.”
This episode spoke to me so hard! MCR was one of my favorite bands ever but I didn't know all of these information about the albuns!!! I'm going to listen it all again. Thank you!
