Neurodivergent Narratives - Writing Prompt #21
“That's the thing about books, they let you travel without moving your feet.” —Jhumpa Lahiri
March has officially gone out like a lamb around here—has it where you are? I’ve always found something comforting in that old saying, the way it captures the shift from chaos to calm. But honestly, I’ve never needed the weather to set the mood for my writing. I love writing when it’s cold and dark, when the world feels a little quieter, and I can sink into my thoughts without distraction. Maybe that’s why so many great writers have come from England—long winters and endless cups of tea make for a perfect creative storm.
But no matter where or when you like to write, one thing’s for sure: finding your author mojo is a game-changer. I talk a lot about this with the writers I coach. Your "author mojo" is that sweet spot—your ideal time, place, and sensory conditions that set you up for your most productive writing sessions. Maybe you need bright lights and upbeat music, or perhaps you’re like me, thriving in dim lighting with a cozy blanket and absolute silence. Figuring out what works for you can make the difference between struggling through a paragraph and effortlessly filling pages.
For me, it's about creating an environment where my brain feels safe and stimulated. Soft lighting, a scented candle, and a familiar playlist help me ease into focus. Others might need the bustle of a coffee shop or the steady hum of white noise. The trick is experimenting until you find what feels right—because once you do, writing becomes less of a battle and more of a flow.
If you’re still searching for your author mojo, Neurodivergent Narratives is a great place to start. Our community provides the space to explore your writing style, build confidence, and find routines that work for your unique brain.
