Listen now | In this episode, Matt and Angela, along with special guest Dr. Sonya Freeman Loftis, explore the deeply autistic themes and characters in the works of Shakespeare.
Loved this! Take a look at neurodivergent King Henry VI and his struggles in pts 2 and 3 (and in actual history) to survive an allistic world of political power plays. Enjoy his lovely soliloquy that begins Act 2 scene 5 of Henry VI pt 3.
Speaking of movie theaters... my favorite movie theater is a small one in a town about a 45 min drive from my place. It's a regular cinema with all the new releases but it's also smaller than ones in bigger cities. What I love about it is you serve the popcorn and drinks yourself and there is just one size and you can refill as often as you want. For popcorn that lets people put as much or as little butter and salt on as they want. The other great thing is that you reserve your seats when you buy your tickets online so you don't have to wonder where you will be sitting or get there really early to try to grab the seat you want. And you can see how many other seats have sold so I often wait for a quiet time and find a seat without anyone next to me. The seats are also big recliners that are very comfortable. Here's a picture of the seats: https://www.thurstontalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Yelm-Cinemas-Reclining-Seats-scaled.jpg
There are theaters closer to me than this one, but I have always found it to be the most Autistic friendly of any of them. I always go there when I want to see a movie.
I'm in the middle of the episode now, it's very interesting!
Matt, I think you talked about the difference between allistic and autistic autism evaluators, which I find facinating. Perhaps you guys can create an episode about autism evaluations and the difference between autistic and allistic evaluators? I always love hearing about the diagnostic process of autism and bottom up proccessing.
Another episode idea is imposter syndrome in autistic people, because many autistic people doubt we're actually autistic, and often get many wrong diagnoses first, or get told there's no way we're autistic before getting diagnosed correctly, and it's very confusing and sad.
A third episode idea is fanfiction, I think maybe the majority of fanfic people are queer and neurodivergent.
(Somewhat related, there are some beautiful fanfics about autistic [coded or just in fanfic made to be autistic] characters, in some the writing style is so sensory based, it's such an autistic way of writing, I wish I found more fanfic/books with that writing style [I'd love recommendations if anyone has any])
I wish I had this class in college! Loved it.
Loved this! Next - menopause is autistic. F$&@ the patriarchy! More gender swapped Shakespeare
