Listen now | In this episode, Matt and Angela explore the so-called Māori word for autism, uncover its true origins, and break down the Takiwātanga meme.
Long time listener, just wanted to give you some ideas for future episodes: Roblox, Minecraft, Musicals (Also rock operas like Tommy), pretty much everything Andrew Lloyd Webber, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Joss Whedon, also autistic villains maybe, I'm positive Any Rand was autistic, also a lot of incels/the people on 4chan.
Hi Matt! Sami here, I'm the Content Manager for The Autistic Culture Podcast. I totally agree with all of these ideas/concepts and will add them to my master doc (I grew up *obsessed* with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as an early dx kid, so I definitely think that there is truth in this one!!). Ayn Rand is one I've always thought of/noticed too, despite how much I dislike her lol.
I’m a late (self) diagnosed AuDHD librarian from New Zealand (Christchurch) and found this episode really interesting. As a pakeha/NZ European, this isn’t a term I use, but think it’s interesting that it’s also not one you hear here at all.
However, autism awareness and conditions in NZ are not very good at all. Matt mentioned that he wants to visit NZ sometime - Matt, please come visit us!! 😀 It would be the best thing ever to have you and/or Angela come here to visit, and do a talk or something
Hi Renee! Sami here; I'm the Content Manager for The Autistic Culture Podcast. I've also wanted to visit NZ, but I've been turned off by their immigration rules for autistics, especially since I'm early diagnosed (so I know that I wouldn't ever be able to take up residence there, lol). I'm definitely curious to know more about the autistic experience there, and how it's different from living in the US (I'm in California, so while conditions are better here than in other parts of the country, there's still ableism and barriers, as is with any location). Thank you for sharing and I'm glad you enjoyed this episode!
Hi! Sami here, I'm the podcast's new Content Manager - and you may want to keep your eyes peeled for a similar episode dropping in the next few months...
