I was given a volume of HCA fairy tales when I was a kid - one of the Children's Illustrated Classics series - and I absolutely HATED it. For some reason, that book just terrified me. Maybe it was the cover illustration, which I remember as having a very creepy old guy on top of a pile of lots and lots of different things . . . anyway, I eventually got rid of it. But I know the basic plot of all the stories, and after hearing this episode I think I'm going to have to go out and get a new copy of his writing and read it through my autistic lenses. Thanks!

Ooh! I totally get the creepy cover = will not read thing, but I also wonder if it might have felt too real to read. Like, drawing attention to the parts of you that you were trying to mask. (I'm a social/anthro/pscyh nerd so please don't be offended by my reading into it! LOL It's my SPIN!)

I definitely believe it, but I was wondering if y'all happen to have a source handy on the stat I think Matt mentioned in this episode about how neurotypicals tune out 98% of sensory info? I'd love to read more about that. Thank you! I'm such a fan!

Hi! Sorry, just seeing this now. I don't have that on hand, but if you find it, please post it here so others can read it too!
